Stop throwing spaghetti against the wall

June 6, 2007

Implementing public relations tactics without strategy and planning often result in, well, this...

For many organizations, PR is an afterthought. For others, PR isn't truly understood or it equals press release (they share the same initials, but the two are NOT one in the same).

Consider this...

a company decides to issue a press release without any substance or PR strategy. To them, it's news – and everyone cares, right? So they write it, place it on the wire, or e-mail it to hundreds of journalists (Read: spaghetti against the wall). Nothing comes of it, and they wonder why no one covered their "news." But they give it a few more tries, get the same results, and decide PR is worthless.

When done right, PR can really help achieve goals, so before you start boiling the water, take these simple steps:

1. Learn what defines PR.

2. Get a strategy.

3. Find an experienced PR professional or team to help you generate results. PR isn't simple, especially if you don't know what you're doing (even if you think you do).

Ultimately, you'll save the world from another non-news release and enjoy a head free of saucy noodles.
